The absence and sickness line that always answers
Crew ring one number to report an absence. Jaluru's AI answers immediately, at any hour, takes the details, and tells the right people before the shift starts.
Certainty for managers, fairness for crew
Answered immediately, 24/7
No voicemail, no engaged tone. Because the AI picks up instantly, there is no grey area about how much notice was given or whether the absence is authorised.
The store knows straight away
The restaurant gets an email within minutes, so cover can be arranged before the shift, not during it.
An AI that knows the rules
Trained on food safety exclusions, statutory sick pay and the different types of absence: sickness, parental care, bereavement and more.
Customised to your policies
Your notice period, your handbook, your sickness policy. The AI applies them and answers questions about them.
Consistent and fair
Everyone is asked the same questions and treated the same way, whoever they are and whenever they ring.
No admin, no training
Nobody on shift takes down details, and crew don't need to learn a new system: it's just a phone call or a text message.
Trained to handle more than "I'm sick"
Each kind of absence needs different questions. The AI works out which one it is dealing with and follows the right script.
Sickness
Symptoms, when they started and the expected return. Works out whether a self-certificate or a GP fit note is needed, and sends the self-certification form.
Food safety exclusions
Trained on food safety rules. Vomiting, diarrhoea and other excluding symptoms mean no return until symptom-free for at least 48 hours without medication.
Unplanned parental care
A sick child or childcare that has fallen through. Recorded as its own absence type, separate from sickness.
Bereavement
Handled gently, with the support your policy offers and a pointer to your Employee Assistance Programme.
Medical appointments
Asks when the appointment is and whether any of the shift can be worked around it. Recorded for the manager, never "approved" by the AI.
Other and protected absences
Anything else is recorded with its reason. Managers can mark an absence as protected, such as pregnancy-related, so it never counts against a crew member.
Still off, or off again? A second call updates the same absence, so the record and the return date stay accurate.
Everything a manager needs, minutes after the call
- Authorised or not. Worked out from the notice actually given against your notice period.
- Food safety. The 48-hour rule is applied to the symptoms described, with follow-up questions when someone says something vague like "flu".
- Return date. The expected return date and shift, feeding the Absence Snapshot for every store.
- History. How many absences this person has had in the last 12 months.
- Transcript and recording. On file for HR, never sent to a shared store inbox.
| Type | Sickness Unauthorised: under 4 hrs notice |
| Reason | Vomiting since 02:00 |
| Food safety | 48-hour exclusion applies |
| Expected back | Thu 8 Oct, once symptom-free for 48 hours |
| Paperwork | Self-certification form sent to Sam |
| Absences, last 12 months | 3 informal meeting due |
Ready for the new statutory sick pay rules
With sick pay now payable from the first day of absence, accurate records matter more than ever. Jaluru produces them as a by-product of the call.
- Self-certification, pre-filled. Emailed to the crew member after the call, ready to sign.
- Self-certificate or fit note. Worked out from the first shift missed and the return date.
- Weekly summary. Every Monday, a report for payroll and HR covering each store.
- Absence history. Report on any date range, with crew ranked by number of absences.
| # | Crew member | Absences | Most recent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | J. Morris | 5 | 22 Sep |
| 2 | A. Patel | 4 | 30 Sep |
| 3 | S. Taylor | 3 | 14 Aug |
| 4 | M. Okoro | 2 | 3 Sep |
| 5 | L. Byrne | 2 | 19 Jul |
Restaurants using Jaluru are seeing absence rates drop by as much as 30%. Consistent treatment and transparent information work as a deterrent to anyone thinking they can take advantage of the new statutory sick pay legislation.
“Jaluru saves admin time and money, and reduces crew absences too!” Franchise OwnerWho is off, and when are they back?
The Absence Snapshot shows each store's absences today and tomorrow, and who is due back this week. A store that is short of crew stands out in yellow, then red.
- Works from any phone. Someone ringing from a different number is identified by their employee number.
- Delivery alerts. If a text or email to a crew member fails, you are told, with the number they last rang from.
- Late attendance Coming soon Reporting of late arrivals, alongside absences.
